can a G2000 take a 4ohm cab.?

Someone please help me out. I got 2 speakers in the mail rated 8 ohms and a padded cab to put them in. I need to know if I can wire them in parallel and connect to the main out on the g2000 head which also has an ext. spkr. jack , but there is no ohm rating. The speakers I am replacing are not rated. I have a VOM , is there a way to do any testing.

thanks boatman

You have been on here a long time. The speakers I am putting in a kustom padded cab came from the grateful deads wall of sound system from 1974. I have had my g2000 since "79 . It came with a master volume installed. Pre and post gain is nice. The brite switch does not appear to do anything and the tremolo sucks up more power than it used too. This is my origional amp and I still have a fender bronco I bought new in 1978. It has a cool floating trem. I saved on to most everything from back then. I miss some tho. Who would think a tube screamer would be worth so much these days.

Thanks again Boatman. Frank

Using your Ohm meeter

You may be able to get a feel for what the old speakers were rated. Were they wired in parallel or series? You can also see what they pull on the meeter.

I am pretty sure my Revival is running at 4 Ohms. My Peavey Standard has a 4 Ohm rating with two jacks.

So if you have to guess I would go for the parallel 4 Ohm wiring.

4 ohm cab

Hello Frank,
I have an original Earth G-2000 speaker box W/ 2- 15" speakers
that is a 4 ohm unit. I replaced the stock speakers W/2- WEBER California's
15" ceramic magnets and paper cones they are 8 ohm speakers, I used a
WEBER Parallel wiring harnness, to make the two speakers run at 4 ohms.
it works perfect. I had replaced my power transformer with a Mercury Magnetics
unit that has 3 different ohm ratings, so I can run either a 4,8,or 16 ohm speaker
box, its a nice option. I have 3 different speaker output jacks in the back of my
G-2000 head. that are marked 4,8, and 16 ohm. I hope this info helped you.

Looks Like 4 Ohms is the ticket

Seems to match what we have seen on other Earth models. (Wish I could spell. Meeter = Meter. )

Glad to see a pick up in traffic on this site. Kudo's to member #1 and owner "tboy" for giving us a forum.
