I bought my G2000 from a friend back in Ct. 1975. and it is still cranking out the tunes after sitting storage for some 20 some odd years. I 'm pretty sure the 2 -15"
speakers are dryed out by now living out in Az. I'm ready to give it a good cleaning, my buddies back there call me a pack rat for keeping the amp for so long, and I keep telling them if it's not broke don't fix it, and also trying to find something out there with the same sound quality for under $2000.00 bucks is impossible. I get the volume on the amp up to around 3 or 4 and it's enough to drive my other half out of the house. I'm trying to find out what would be the best choice of replacement speakers if need be??? Any input would be highly appreicated, thanks. This amp is a keeper, if you can find one get it.
Speakers in my cab
Hello,
I've been trying to contact you to thank you for your complement on my amp. Even though I'm a registered user here, I was unable to post a comment. Probably because I needed to be authorized by the blog-master.
I'm really happy with this amp. What makes it better is that my son bought it for me as a Christmas gift this year. So I've not had much experience with it yet. I've had just one jam session with the guys I'm playing with. They seem to like the sound. I agree with you about getting the amplification and sound for under $2k, because I've been shopping around; especially a hand-wired amp like this one. I was amazed to find that it was hand-wired. There is something about the tone in a hand-wired amp, I can't put my finger on it, but maybe it's the components chosen, the solder used, who knows.
Anyway, I thought that I had two 15" Eminence speakers in my cabinet because that is what the shop owner told me that he put inside the cab as replacements: "two brand new Eminence speakers." I took them out today and discovered that it was a lie. There is one "MG 1545" (Click Here To See) and one that looks like an old Eminence speaker (it has a horseshoe magnet). I'm thinking about replacing both of them with JBLs. Additionally, when I took it apart, I saw that he soldered the wires in. Do you think that there is any harm in using solderless connectors? I'm planning on doing some reinforcing work on the base of the cab (water damage) in order to properly secure some reliable casters, and I'll be pulling the speakers out again. I have a 1998 Fender Acoustasonic amp that has three speakers in it and they used solderless connectors.
I'm I correct in assuming that you were going to upload a amp owner's manual? I would really appreciate that! Any specs on the amp would be appreciated as well.
Take care,
Craig,
Happy Earth Super Guitar G-2000 Owner
RE: G-2000 Cabinet
Hi Craig, Thanks for the info on your cabinet. There is alot of different 15" speakers out there that will work in this cabinet, its just a matter of what kind of tone you want. As for the quick connects for the speaker wires should'nt be a problem, it's just that the solder joints are more vibration friendly. Anyhow, all I have is a PDF file on the wiring schematic for the Super G- 2000 Head. I can't figure out how to get that file to you, I can't figure out how to attach that PDF to this site??? Any help would be cool. Thanks, enjoy the new speakers when you get them, let me know how it turned out.
